--- News ---

* HCDTE Lecture Notes, Part I.: This is the first of two volumes containing the lecture notes of some of the courses given during the intensive trimester HCDTE, Nonlinear Hyperbolic PDEs, Dispersive and Transport Equations: analysis and control, held at SISSA, Trieste (Italy) from May 16th to July 22nd, 2011.

The lectures covered a number of different topics within the fields of hyperbolic equations, fluid dynamic, dispersive and transport equations, measure theory and control and they were primarily intended for PhD students and young researchers at the beginning of their career.

Contributions in this volume:

 I. Chueshov and I. Lasiecka: Well-posedness and long time behavior in nonlinear dissipative hyperbolic-like evolutions with critical exponents;

J.-F. Coulombel: Stability of finite difference schemes for hyperbolic initial boundary value problems.

S. Liu and R. Triggiani: Boundary control and boundary inverse theory for non-homogeneous second order hyperbolic equations: a common Carleman estimates approach.

Edited by: Giovanni Alberti, Fabio Ancona, Stefano Bianchini, Gianluca Crippa, Camillo De Lellis, Andrea Marson, Corrado Mascia.

The publisher agreed with the editors and the authors to make this volume freely available in electronic form. Follow the link below to download the pdf file.

School and Workshop on "Geometric Measure Theory and Optimal Transport"
Monday 15 jul 2013 -- Friday 2 aug 2013
ICTP Trieste
The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is organizing an activity on Geometric Measure Theory and Optimal Transport, to be held from 15 July to 2 August 2013, in Trieste, Italy. It will be directed by Luigi Ambrosio (Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa), Claudio Arezzo (ICTP), Tobias Colding (New York University) and Camillo De Lellis (University of Zurich).

During the two first weeks (15 July - 26 July): courses will be delivered by the lecturers: Luigi Ambrosio, Camillo De Lellis, Guido De Philippis, Alessio Figalli, Emanuele Spadaro and Stefan Wenger on the following topics:

Regularity for area-minimizing currents |
Optimal Transportation |
Monge-Amp?re equations	|
Riemannian Ricci bounds |

The third week (29 July -?? 2 August) will be a conference. The invited speakers will include some of the best experts in the field as well as brillant young researchers. They will provide the participants with some of the most recent and most interesting perspectives for future research.

Tentative list of invited Speakers for the third week:
Giovanni Alberti (University of Pisa), Costante Bellettini (Princeton University), Giovanni Bellettini (University of Rome "Tor Vergata"), Tobias Colding (MIT), Marianna Cs?rnyei (University College London), Thierry De Pauw (Institut de Math?matiques de Jussieu), Michael Eichmair (ETH Zurich), Nicola Gigli (University of Nice), Robert Hardt (Rice University), Robert Jerrard (University of Toronto), Bernd Kirchheim (University of Leipzig), Ulrich Menne (Max-??Planck-??Institut), Jan Metzger (Potsdam University), Giandomenico Orlandi (University of Verona), Aldo Pratelli (University of Pavia), David Preiss (University of Warwick), Tristan Rivi?re (ETH Zurich), Reiner Schaetzle (University of Tubingen), Thomas Schmidt (Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa), Rick Schoen (Stanford Uinversity), Neshan Wickramasekera (University of Cambridge).

PARTICIPATION

Mathematicians from all countries which are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA may attend the Activity. As it will be conducted in English, participants should have an adequate working knowledge of that language. Although the main purpose of the Centre is to help research workers from developing countries, through a programme of training activities within a framework of international cooperation, a limited number of students and post-??doctoral scientists from developed countries are also welcome to attend.
As a rule, travel and subsistence expenses of the participants should be borne by the home institution. Every effort should be made by candidates to secure support for their fare (or at least half-??fare). However, limited funds are available for some participants who are nationals of, and working in, a developing country, and who are not more than 45 years old. Such support is available only for those who attend the entire activity. There is no registration fee.

HOW TO APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION

The application form can be accessed at the activity website [http://agenda.ictp.it/smr.php?2459]
Once in the website, comprehensive instructions will guide you step-??by-??step, on how to fill out and submit the application form.
Only applications showing a good background in the area of Mathematical Analysis will be considered.
