3- Demi-journée thématique Statistique et Optimisation

La SFdS, la SMAI et EDF organisent le 28 janvier 2011 une demi-journée
thématique associant statistique et optimisation au travers de quatre
exposés croisant problématiques industrielles, avancées méthodologiques
et synthèses théoriques. L'objectif est de faire se rencontrer des acteurs
des deux communautés intéressés par les aspects théoriques ou appliqués
autour de travaux à l'interface entre les deux domaines.

Summer Course on Optimization in Machine Learning (May 31-June 4).
Workshop on Optimization in Machine Learning (June 6-7).
The Summer Course will be given by Katya Scheinberg (Lehigh
University) and Nati Srebro (Toyota Technological Institute at
Chicago) and will introduce a range of machine learning models
and optimization tools that are used to apply these models in
practice. For the students with some Machine Learning background
the course will introduce what lies behind the optimization tools
often used as a black box as well as an understanding of the
trade-offs of numerical accuracy and theoretical and empirical
complexity. For the students with some Optimization background
this course will introduce a variety of applications arising in
Machine Learning and Statistics as well as novel optimization
methods targeting these applications. Plenary speakers already
confirmed for the workshop include Kristin P. Bennett, Inderjit
S. Dhillon, and Lieven Vandenberghe.
One will be able to reimburse the travel and lodging expenses of
a number of students (Portuguese or US citizens and permanent
residents).

7- Ecole d'été en Calcul des Variations et Applications (CIRM)

Cette école d'été s'adresse à un petit groupe de doctorants
et jeunes chercheurs et a pour objectif de les introduire à
des sujets en plein développement, auprès de spécialistes
reconnus dans le domaine du Calcul des Variations et de ses
applications.
Les thèmes abordés seront issus de situations diverses et
traités tant d'un point de vue théorique que de l'implémentation
numérique.
Les conférenciers invités sont :
Pierre Cardaliaguet (CEREMADE, Université Paris-Dauphine),
Ilaria Fragalà (Dipartimento di Matematica, Politecnico di Milano),
Edouard Oudet (LAMA, Université de Savoie),

We would like to invite you to take part in sessions
* Variational Analysis
* Stability in Optimal Control
* Nonsmooth Optimization
within the Continuous and Non-Smooth Optimization stream
of the IFORS2011 Conference. This conference will be held at
the new Melbourne Convention Centre in the city of Melbourne,
Australia from 10th to 15th July 2011. Contributions from both
the academic and the non-academic communities are welcome.
There going to be several sessions within the stream.
Abstracts have to be submitted via the abstract submission
system on the conference website by entering the session code.
