Abstract:

We give a higher-order description of non-convex next-to-nearest neighbour interaction discrete systems, showing the appearence of internal and boundary interfacial energies. In the case of Lennard-Jones type potentialls, the effect of boundary layers on both sides of the fracture is also described. Non-local effects are also highlighted.
