ABSTRACT.

The talk will describe the process by which the equations of hydrodynamics (in this case the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in three space dimensions) can be rigrously derived from the Boltzmann equation, which is the fundamental motion equation in the kinetic theory of gases. The emphasis will be put on methods that lead to derivations that are global in time and valid for initial data of arbitrary size.
