Abstract.

I will discuss the construction of (fractal) sets in metric spaces and visit the following topics: (1) Separation conditions for self-similar mappings in metric spaces. In particular the open set condition and requirements that accompany it. (2) An approach to study set constructions in metric spaces which, for example, do not support any non-trivial similitude mappings. (3) The simple and yet powerful idea of mixing self-similar constructions. Some examples in Carnot groups will be given.
