We invite applications for one 2-years postdoctoral contract at SISSA (International School of Advanced Studies, Trieste, Italy).

Description of the position

The appointment will be primarily based on excellent scientific contributions and outstanding research potential. The selected candidate will be hired on the ERC Starting Grant GEOSUB "Geometric analysis of sub-Riemannian spaces through interpolation inequalities", under the supervision of Luca Rizzi. The ideal candidate is expected to have a solid background in one of the topics of the project, including geometric analysis of sub-Riemannian manifolds and-or metric spaces, geometric inequalities on such spaces, theory of curvature bounds in a broad sense, optimal transport, isoperimetric inequalities, geometric control theory.

The contract is expected to start not later than January 1st 2025, with some flexibility, and the duration is two years. The salary is around 2300€ after taxes, including social security and medical insurance, which is a competitive salary when compared with the cost of living in Trieste. The position comes with no compulsory teaching duties and substantial travel funds, so to provide the highly promising selected candidate an ideal research environment.

The Host Institution

SISSA – Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati – was founded in 1978 and is a scientific center of excellence within the national and international academic scene. Located in Italy, in the city of Trieste, it features about 70 professors, 130 researchers, 300 PhD students. The School is surrounded by a 25 acre park, and offers a stunning view of the Gulf of Trieste. The quality level of the research is further confirmed by the fact that within the competitive field of European funding schemes SISSA holds the top position among Italian scientific institutes in terms of research grants obtained in relation to the number of researchers and professors.
