The professorship Mathematics of Machine Learning at the Institute of Mathematics of the Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg announces a position as postdoctoral researcher with a starting date of October 1, 2023, or later. This full-time position is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of extension. The position is suitable for part-time work, provided that the full-time fulfillment of duties is ensured through job sharing. The competitive annual gross salary of approximately 52k € follows the German TV-L (E13) scale. The responsibilities of the position include active participation in the research projects of the chair, individual academic qualifications, as well as enthusiastic involvement in teaching. Proficiency in German or the willingness to learn and teach in German is advantageous. An intense interest in research questions within the field of mathematical theory of machine learning is expected. This may include topics such as robust optimization, semi-supervised learning with graphs, and the stability of neural networks against adversarial attacks. Moreover, the applicant possesses strengths in mathematical areas such as partial differential equations, calculus of variations, optimization, numerical analysis, or statistics.
