The Research Group on Calculus of Variations of the Institute for Applied Mathematics at the University of Münster and the Research Group on Applied Mathematics and Modeling of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna invite applications for
one Postdoc and two PhD-student positions
starting in April 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Postdoc appointment is for two years and the PhD-student positions are for three years. Positions are either based in Münster or in Vienna and mobility between the two institutions will be favored. Appointments involve no teaching duties.
The appointments are funded by the joint international DFG-FWF grant Variational Modeling of Molecular Geometries and will focus on the analysis, geometry, and mechanics of discrete systems. Applicants for the Postdoc and PhD student positions must have or be close to obtain a PhD or a Master, respectively, in Mathematical Sciences. A strong background in discrete mathematics, calculus of variations, or applied analysis is required.
Candidates are requested to e-mail their application including a detailed CV as a single pdf file to appl.math@univie.ac.at and to indicate names and full contact addresses of two references (no letters required).
Applications will be assessed continuously, until positions are filled. A first evaluation round will start on December 15, 2019.
