Deadline: 30 nov 2026
A two-year, full-time, pure-research postdoctoral position in the area of geometric calculus of variations and partial differential equations is available at the University of Vienna through grants of the Austrian Science Fund to the principal investigators (PIs) Michael Eichmair, Thomas Körber, and Daniele Semola.
These grants are:
-Isoperimetry in mathematical relativity (PI Michael Eichmair), -Applications of minimal surface techniques in geometry (PI Thomas Körber), -Optimal inequalities in geometry and relativity (PI Thomas Körber), -Geometric Analysis under lower Ricci Curvature bounds (PI Daniele Semola).
The working language of the research groups is English.
Applicants should indicate clearly in their cover letters how their previous works and qualifications connect to the recent works of one or more of the PIs and the topics of their grants. The selection of the candidates will be based on fit with the research interests of the PIs and research excellence. Successful candidates are expected to contribute to these grants and the research group on geometric partial differential equations headed by the PIs at the University of Vienna. Moreover, they are encouraged to apply for a grant of their own from the Austrian Science Fund, e.g., through the ESPRIT Program. Members of our group have been very successful in obtaining their own third-party funding, which they have used to extend their positions and do excellent work.
The gross annual income for these positions is approximately 70,000 EUR, which enables a very comfortable lifestyle in Vienna, arguably the most liveable city in the world.
Paid teaching opportunities at the Faculty of Mathematics can be arranged if desired by the candidates.
