Calculus of Variations and Geometric Measure Theory

Postdoc Position in Turin - FIS Project "GEMS" (Contratto di Ricerca)

created by tione on 01 Jul 2026

Deadline: 21 jul 2026

A call for one postdoctoral position within FIS project GEMS is now open.

Essential information (for more details, see the link below):

- Candidates: Researchers of any academic age can apply, provided they fulfill the requirements outlined in the call. The researcher will work on one or more of the following research lines: 1) Regularity issues for equations with degenerate ellipticity (e.g., p-Laplacian), with special focus on very weak solutions;

2) Regularity issues for equations with non-convex ellipticity (e.g., polyconvex or quasiconvex functionals);

3) Systematic development of convex integration for the construction of more regular counterexamples;

4) Analysis of rigidity and flexibility for linear problems with constant coefficients;

- Duration, conditions and salary: the position is for 24 months (renewable), with no teaching duties and with a salary of approximately 2200 euros per month (paid in 13 months);

- About the project: Project GEMS investigates questions of regularity and rigidity in partial differential equations, focusing, for instance, on stationary points of polyconvex integrands and equations with degenerate ellipticity, such as the p-Laplacian. By adopting the formalism of differential inclusions, the project aims to distinguish between rigidity phenomena, which guarantee higher regularity for solutions, and flexibility scenarios characterized by the use of convex integration. The ultimate goal is to refine existing mathematical tools to address open problems at the crossroads of elliptic PDEs, the Calculus of Variations, and Geometric Measure Theory.
