The Mathematical Institute at the Justus Liebig University Gießen offers a PhD position in the field of Calculus of Variations under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Matthias Ruf. The position should start at 01.09.26 (short delay possible) and is initially for three years with a possible extension by further two years. The salary is according to pay scale TV-H 13, 50 % (at least around 1600€ after taxes). Possible research topics include problems in stochastic homogenization or discrete-to-continuum limits.
Your profile:
- when position starts: Master's degree (or equivalent) in mathematics with focus on analysis
- high motivation to work on challenging problems
- willingness to give exercise sessions for courses in mathematics
Your tasks:
- research in mathematics including writing a PhD thesis
- knowledge transfer via publications and via participation in conferences
- exercise classes for courses in mathematics (2hweek)
- co-supervising bachelor's and master's theses
