Calculus of Variations and Geometric Measure Theory

PhD Scholarship in Analysis at the University of Trento

Deadline: 22 may 2026

I am looking for candidates interested in a PhD scholarship in Mathematics at the University of Trento, starting in the next PhD cycle (November 2026).

The scholarship is connected to the FIS 2 project:

Singular Structures in the Geometry of Measures: decompositions, rigidity and rectifiability

More information on the project can be found on the project's webpage.

The project concerns topics in Geometric Measure Theory, Calculus of Variations, Optimal Transport, Fractal Geometry, and related areas. The main goal is to study the structure of singular measures and related questions involving rectifiability, decompositions, rigidity, and variational problems.

The scholarship has a three-year gross amount of €67,885.68. This is higher than the standard Italian PhD scholarship, consistently with the recent increase of PhD scholarship amounts at the University of Trento.

In addition to the standard PhD research budget and the generous travel funds provided by the PhD programme in Trento, the project will provide substantial extra funding for conferences, research visits, and other scientific travel.

This is only a preliminary call of interest. The official application will have to be submitted through the University of Trento website once the call opens, expected around 22 May 2026.
