Postdoctoral position at U Penn in applied mathematics

Applications are invited for a 2 year (1+1) interdisciplinary postdoctoral position in applied mathematics. The position is funded by the NSF project "Understanding Continuum Models of Elasto-Plastic Deformation via Multiscale Analyses". The aim of the project is to establish on rigorous grounds the main hypotheses of continuous elasto-plastic models in the setting of large deformations from the underlying dislocation activity, and elucidate their limits of applicability. The tools that will be used for the analyses stem from the area of calculus of variations and Gamma-convergence. Expertise in these areas of applied mathematics is highly desired.

The postdoc will be based at U Penn and will be supervised by Prof. Celia Reina. The project is in cooperation with Prof. Anja Schlömerkemper (U Würzburg, Germany) and in collaboration with Prof. Sergio Conti (U Bonn, Germany). The position is available as of now with a flexible starting date (including early 2015). The stipend depends on the years of experience and starts at $42 000.

Interested candidates should send an email to creina@seas.upenn.edu before August 1st expressing their interest together with their CV and a copy of the PhD thesis and publications. Two confidential letters of recommendation should also be sent to the same email. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
