Postdoc position in sub-Riemannian geometry at SISSA

created by rizzi1 on 01 Mar 2026

Deadline: 31 mar 2026

We invite applications for one postdoctoral contract at SISSA (International School of Advanced Studies, Trieste, Italy).

The appointment will be primarily based on excellent scientific contributions and outstanding research potential. The selected candidate will be hired on the ERC Starting Grant GEOSUB "Geometric analysis of sub-Riemannian spaces through interpolation inequalities", under the supervision of Luca Rizzi. The ideal candidate is expected to have a solid background in one of the topics of the project, including geometric analysis of sub-Riemannian manifolds and metric spaces, geometric inequalities on such spaces, theory of curvature bounds in a broad sense, optimal transport, isoperimetric inequalities, geometric control theory.

The contract is expected to start as soon as possible and the duration is two years. The position comes with no compulsory teaching duties and substantial travel funds, so to provide the highly promising selected candidate an ideal research environment. The salary will be determined on the basis of the candidate experience.

The following documents must be sent, ideally before the end of march, to lrizzi@sissa.it:

- a curriculum vitae; - a list of publications; - a research statement (describing previous results and future projects, not longer than 5 pages); - the names and address of up to two scientists that can provide a reference letter for the candidate.
