About TU Darmstadt. TU Darmstadt stands for excellent and relevant science. We are playing a decisive role in shaping far-reaching processes of global change—from energy transition to artificial intelligence—through outstanding scientific knowledge and innovative academic programmes. We group our cutting-edge research into three fields: Energy and Environment, Information and Intelligence, Matter and Materials. We are a university with strong ties to the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region and a very strong international focus. We are committed to European values and European integration.

About our department. The Department of Mathematics at Technical University of Darmstadt is renowned for excellence in research and teaching. With a strong commitment to innovation and the values of TU Darmstadt, the department covers a broad spectrum of pure and applied mathematics. We value equal treatment, respect, and diversity. As an internationally connected department, we offer all researchers the best conditions to thrive – regardless of background. We therefore see diversity and different areas of experience as an opportunity.

Your Tasks. The Department of Mathematics at the Technical University of Darmstadt seeks candidates for a Full Professorship (W3) in non-linear PDEs. We are looking for a scientist distinguished by outstanding research achievements and a strong international presence, who represents the field of mathematical analysis within the Department of Mathematics in both research and teaching. As a full professor in non-linear PDEs, you will expand and deepen already established connections to other mathematical research groups, such as numerical analysis, geometry, continuous optimization or stochastics. You are encouraged to collaborate within the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU) network.

For this position, you are expected to have a proven record of internationally excellent research in a current area of nonlinear partial differential equations. Your possible research topics include but are not limited to:

Mathematical fluid mechanics,

Variational problems,

Nonlinear evolution equations,

Other contemporary topics in the field of nonlinear PDEs.

In teaching, you will contribute to the core and in-depth courses for mathematics students and to service teaching for other disciplines. Particular emphasis will be placed on strengthening and continuing the analysis curriculum at the master’s level. You will also be responsible to participate in foundational courses such as Analysis I–II, Differential Equations, Complex Analysis, Measure and Integration, and Functional Analysis.

You are expected to lead your research group with responsibility and consistency, and to create a positive, inclusive, and diverse working environment for staff and students. Furthermore, active and leading involvement in future national and international collaborative projects of the Department of Mathematics is desired.

Your profile. An outstanding doctorate and a habilitation in mathematics, or a habilitation equivalent underpinned by relevant research work in excellent international journals, are expected. Experience in securing third-party funding is desirable. As part of the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region, Technical University of Darmstadt and its surroundings are characterized by living internationality. The core element of this is a cosmopolitan climate with functional multilingualism at our university. Therefore, very good English and, at the latest after three years, good German language skills are expected. The position includes a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German “W-Besoldung”, and is subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. Further requirements for employment are based on § 67 and § 68 HessHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
