This is a remainder for the ERC Postdoctoral contract in geometric analysis of sub-Riemannian spaces

Deadline: Friday, Jan 15, 2021

We invite applications for one postdoctoral contract at the Institut Fourier, University of Grenoble Alpes (France).

The selected candidate will be hired on the [ERC Starting Grant GEOSUB "Geometric analysis of sub-Riemannian spaces through interpolation inequalities"|https://sites.google.com/view/rizziluca/erc-geosub], under the supervision of Luca Rizzi. The ideal candidate is expected to have a solid background in one of the topics of the project, including geometric analysis of sub-Riemannian manifolds and metric spaces, geometric inequalities on such spaces, theory of curvature bounds in a broad sense, optimal transportation, geometric control theory.

The appointment will be primarily based on excellent scientific contributions and outstanding research potential.

*Details of the position*|
The contract is expected to start on October 2021, with some flexibility. The initial appointment is two years, with an option for a third year. The salary is determined on the basis of the candidate's experience (range 2600-3000€ per month before taxes, including social security and medical insurance). The position comes with no compulsory teaching duties and substantial travel funds, so to provide the highly promising selected candidate an ideal research environment.

Applicants must have obtained their PhD before the start of the postdoctoral contract, and ideally not earlier than 2018 (but this is not a strict requirement).

*Scientific context*|
The selected candidate will work at the Institut Fourier, a CNRS research unit at the University of Grenoble Alpes (France). The Fourier Institute is one of the main laboratories in pure mathematics in France. The laboratory's activities are mainly focused on fundamental mathematics. There are eight main research themes, each with its own running seminar : Algebra and Geometry, Combinatorics and Didactics, Geometry and Topology, Mathematical Physics, Probability, Number Theory.

Grenoble is one of the most dynamic research ecosystems in France. The Grenoble university site is recognized for its scientific and technological excellence and its potential for innovation. In 2016, it was awarded the "Initiative d'excellence" label, reserved for a dozen university sites in France that are recognized as world-class centers of excellence in higher education and research.

Call opens: November 23rd 2020|
Deadline: January 15th 2021|
Selection process: shortlisted candidates will be contacted before the end January 2021 for an interview. The final decision will be made no later than February 2021.

*How to apply*|
The application process is handled via the CNRS hiring platform, at this [link|https://www.google.com/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Femploi.cnrs.fr%2FOffres%2FCDD%2FUMR5582-LUCRIZ-001%2FDefault.aspx%3Flang%3DEN&sa=D&sntz=1&usg=AFQjCNHRCcU0e0BsFPZijDroVOvuHClM_g].

The following documents will be required, in PDF format:

1) a curriculum vitae, including a list of publication;

2) a presentation letter including a research statement (describing previous results and future projects, not longer than 6 pages);

3) 3 letters of reference (maximum), to be sent directly to [luca.rizzi at univ-grenoble-alpes.fr|mailto:luca.rizzi at univ-grenoble-alpes.fr]
