1- Open position at Aukland University within the Department of
Engineering Science (DES), deadline november 11, 2015
(source : V. Leclère et A. Philpott)

The University of Auckland is New Zealand's largest university and
houses the country’s largest and most successful engineering school.
Within the Faculty of Engineering, the Department of Engineering Science
(DES) provides undergraduate degree programmes in Engineering Science
and Biomedical Engineering (see www.des.auckland.ac.nz). The Engineering
Science degree focuses on mathematical modelling and its application to
problems in solid and fluid mechanics and operations
research/computational analytics. Each cohort in the Engineering Science
degree consists of about 50 students selected at Year 2 of their degree.
Entry standards are very high. DES also has teaching responsibilities in
mathematics and computation to students from all disciplines within the
School of Engineering. DES has an excellent research record in
operations research/computational analytics and provides the largest and
most successful group working in this area in New Zealand. The
operations research/computational analytics team (currently seven
full-time academics) has special expertise in scheduling and rostering,
transportation modeling, healthcare analytics, stochastic and multi-
objective optimization, and electricity market research. Much of this
research is carried out in collaboration with local industries, with
which the group has strong links. Research funding for analytics in DES
is growing rapidly. Two DES faculty are principal investigators in Te
Punaha Matatini (the New Zealand Centre for Networks and Complexity),
and three operations research/computational analytics faculty are
principal investigators in the Smart Services portfolio of National
Science Challenge 7, Science for Technological Innovation. Four
operations research/computational analytics faculty are also
investigators on MBIE grants. Operations research/computational
analytics faculty collaborate often with researchers in North America
and Europe, and regularly attend major conferences (e.g. INFORMS and
EURO). The Department of Engineering Science are seeking to make an
appointment in operations research/computational analytics to complement
the decision modelling expertise in the Department. We are seeking
applicants with broad interests in business analytics and its
applications, but specific expertise in data science, machine learning,
applied probability and statistics, and database systems for mining and
analysing complex and unstructured data sets will be preferred. The
successful applicant will be expected to build and lead a programme of
international quality research and undertake PhD research supervision in
the general area of operations research/computational analytics; to
develop and deliver curricula and courses in the field of operations
research/computational analytics, in particular at postgraduate and
advanced undergraduate level; and perform service roles in the
Department of Engineering Science. Salary range: Lecturer Step 1 (77,453
NZD p.a. ) to Senior Lecturer Step 8 (123,338 NZD p.a. ). The University
has an equity policy and welcomes applications from all qualified
persons. The University is committed to meeting its obligations under
the Treaty of Waitangi and achieving equity outcomes for staff and
students. It provides on-site early childhood education centres for
babies and pre-school children, it has parental leave and flexible work
policies which support a balance between work, life, family and caring
responsibilities. If you have any questions about this position please
contact Professor Rosalind Archer via r.archer at auckland.ac.nz
Applications close 11 November 2015.
