The research group KU Leuven ESAT-STADIUS is currently offering 2
Postdoc positions (1-year) within the framework of the ERC (European
Research Council) Advanced Grant A-DATADRIVE-B (PI: Johan Suykens)

The research positions relate to the following possible topics:

processing, bioinformatics and biomedicine.

3- Postdoctoral Position - Automotive Control Engineering, Tecnológico
de Monterrey, Monterrey, Mexico

As part of our new, enhanced strategy to further strengthen research
programs at Tecnológico de Monterrey, our institution is seeking
qualified candidates for positions as full time postdoctoral researchers
in the fields of Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Automotive
Control Engineering.

Therefore, Tecnológico de Monterrey, opens one position for Full Time
Postdoctoral Researchers in the fields of: Control / Automotive Control
/ Mechanical Engineering.

Theoretical research interest: Robust and H-infinity control, LMIs, LPV
systems, sampling dependent control design. Time-delay systems,
observers, robust control, structural analysis, LPV TDS. Fault detection
and diagnosis, fault tolerant control. Nonlinear control, Nonlinear
observers.

Applied research interests: Automotive/Vehicle modeling & control;
Global chassis control, Suspensions modeling and control (semi-active),
Brakes, Steer modeling & control. Mechatronics systems, Instrumentation.

The Postdoctoral Researchers will work under the supervision of the
Consortium Engineering Research Group. The Consortium coordinates the
efforts of three of the most important Tier 1 suppliers of components
for the Automotive Industry, which cooperate with ITESM in the
development of new manufacturing processes, materials and components for
the next generation of automotive systems. Postdocs will have the
opportunity of doing research stays at important automotive engineering
research centers in Mexico and abroad, as required by their particular
project goals.

These are 1 year positions with a starting date between January 1, 2016
and January 1, 2017, with possible extensions to 2 years.

Game Theory, Dynamics, and Optimisation

We want to hire an outstanding senior scientist in game theory. The new
colleague will pilot the research on the theme "game theory, dynamics,
and optimization" within the group Combinatorics and Optimization and
will be responsible for the M1 and M2 lecturing on this theme. He/she
will work at the Institut de Mathématiques (IMJ-PRG, UMR 7586) for
his/her research and teach at the Faculté de Mathématiques, UPMC (UFR 929).

8- XVI International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems: Theory,
Numerics, Application, August 1-5, 2016 in Aachen (Germany)

The objective of the conference is to bring together scientists with
interests in the theoretical, applied, and computational aspects of
hyperbolic partial differential equations and of related mathematical
models that appear in applied sciences.

The conference was first held 1986 in St. Etienne (France) and has
been organized since then biennially at different locations all over
the world: 2014 Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), 2012 Padua (Italy), 2010
Beijing (China), 2008 College Park (U.S.A.), 2006 Lyon (France), etc.

In keeping with the tradition, the conference consists of plenary and
invited lectures, as well as contributed talks and poster presentations.
These will represent all three aspects of the field: theory, numerics
and applications. As has been done in the past, a special effort will be
made to enable young scientists to attend the conference and to meet and
interact with the more senior researchers.

Registration for the conference is available now at the website

We urge all interested participants to register and to submit their
proposals for contributed talks or poster presentations at their
earliest convenience. For full consideration, abstracts should be
submitted not later than April 15, 2016.

9- The 10th International Conference on Optimization: Techniques and
Applications, July 23-26, 2016, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

The first two ICOTA conferences were held in Singapore in 1987 and 1992,
respectively. After which, ICOTA has become an important conference
series run by a steering committee. The third ICOTA conference was held
in Chengdu in 1995, and the fourth ICOTA was held in Perth in 1998. The
fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth ICOTA were held, respectively,
in Hong Kong in 2001, Ballarat in 2004, Kobe in 2007, Shanghai in 2010,
and Taipei in 2013.

The ICOTA conference series is an official conference series of The
Pacific Optimization Research Activity Group (POP). Like previous ICOTA
conferences, the goal of the 10th ICOTA is to provide an international
forum for scientist, researchers, software developers, and practitioners
to exchange ideas and approaches, to present research findings and
state-of-the-art solutions, to share experiences on potentials and
limits, and to open new avenues of research and development, on all
issues and topics related to optimization and its applications.

Topics in the 10th ICOTA include, but not limited to, those listed in
the following:

Optimization theory and numerical algorithms: linear programming,
nonlinear programming, integer programming, network programming,
semi-definite programming, stochastic programming, dynamic programming,
optimal control, global optimization, nonsmooth optimization,
semi-infinite programming, multi-objective optimization, variational
inequalities, complementarity problems, mathematical programs with
equilibrium constraint.

Algorithm: design, analysis, implementation of traditional mathematical
programming methodology, modern techniques such as meta-heuristic for
combinatorial and continuous optimization.

Application: engineering, nonlinear systems, stochastic system control,
data/text mining from large databases, intelligent information and
technology, systems science, knowledge management, information and
communication networks, transportation, scheduling, logistics, finance,
game theory, industrial engineering, management science, operations
research.

Publication details:

All submitted papers will be peer-reviewed by referees. Papers accepted
for presentation in the conference will be included in the conference
proceedings, while outstanding papers will be invited for publications
in specialissues of several prestigious international journals.

11- Triste nouvelle : décès de Bernard Prum

Chers membres de la SMAI,

J'ai l'immense tristesse de vous faire part du décès de notre collègue
et ami Bernard Prum, survenu le mercredi 21 octobre à l'âge de 69 ans.

Bernard Prum a été secrétaire général de la SMAI de 1995 à 1998,
responsable du groupe MAS de 2002 à 2006, membre du Conseil
d'administration de la SMAI plusieurs années et un membre très actif et
très apprécié de notre communauté.

Ses obsèques auront lieu à partir du vendredi 23 octobre. L'inhumation
sera faite le jeudi 29 octobre au cimetière de Thonon-les-Bains.
