"Lasserre hierarchy" which has attracted a lot of attention in many
areas (e.g., optimization, applied mathematics, quantum computing,
engineering, theoretical computer science).

8- Sparse days III, Saint Girons , June 29th - July 2nd, 2015
(source : J.-B. Caillau)

The conference is organized by IRIT and CERFACS researchers with an
international management committee comprising general chairs
James Demmel (University of Berkeley), Jack Dongarra (University of
Tennessee), Iain Duff (RAL and CERFACS-IRIT common lab), and
Patrick Amestoy (INPT-IRIT). The local organizer chair is Pierre-Henri
Cros (IRIT).

In any large-scale numerical computation in the context of large,
complex and hierarchical computers, one has to understand the
algorithmic choices that have to be made. In this context, both sparse
linear algebra kernels together with dense linear kernels are the key to
enable other numerical libraries in the software stack to achieve high
computational efficiency.
The focus of the conference in St Girons will be on these kernel topics
although there will be dedicated sessions on optimization and on the
themes of the four workshops of the CIMI semester: - Low-rank
approximations for high performance sparse solvers
- Innovative clustering methods for large graphs and block methods
- Parallel methods for time dependent problems
- Advances in optimization with application to data assimilation

11- Fourteenth annual "Modeling and OPtimization: Theory and
Applications" (MOPTA) conference, Lehigh University, Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania, July 20-22, 2015
(source : M. Théra)

MOPTA aims at bringing together a diverse group of people from both
discrete and continuous optimization, working on both theoretical and
applied aspects. There will be invited plenary talks from distinguished
speakers as well as organized sessions and contributed talks, spread
over three days. Our target is to provide a diverse set of exciting new
developments from different areas of optimization research while at the
same time providing a setting which will allow increased interaction
among the participants. We aim to bring together researchers from both
the theoretical and applied communities in the framework of a
medium-scale event who do not usually have the chance to interact in
larger meetings.

We welcome contributed talks, and we are also very interested in hearing
from people who could organize a session centered around one of their
topics of expertise. MOPTA sessions have 3 speakers, with 30 mins per
presentation including Q&A's. Speakers will be kindly asked
to submit their abstract on the MOPTA website. The deadline for abstract
submission is May 1.

Confirmed plenary speakers:
* Alper Atamtürk (University of California-Berkeley)
* Amir Beck (Technion - Israel Institute of Technology)
* Mirjam Dür (University of Trier)
* Eugene Feinberg (SUNY)
* Ravi Mazumdar (Waterloo)
* Luis Nunes Vicente (Universidade de Coimbra)
* Tong Zhang (Rutgers University)

Please contact Alexander Stolyar (als714 at lehigh.edu)
or Martin Takac (Takac.MT at gmail.com) if you would like to organize a
session for MOPTA.

12- International Workshop “Variational Analysis and Applications”,
ERICE,August 28 – September 5, 2015
(source : M. Théra)

The workshop aims at presenting state-of-the-art and current research
directions in variational analysis and partial differential equations
and systems.

Variational analysis encompasses a large area of modern mathematics,
including the classic calculus of variations, the theories of
perturbation, approximation, subgradient, subderivatives, set
convergence and variational inequalities. Originating with the Signorini
problem, about 5 decades ago, variational inequalities have undergone
great development and influence both in the progress of variational
analysis, and in applications to mathematical physics and, more
recently, to engineering, statistics, economics, financial networks and
generalized complementarity problems.

In particular, several classical and new theories have received a strong
impulse for effective solutions to until-now unsolved problems. These
theories include: evolutionary projected dynamical systems, infinite
dimensional duality, minimax problems, existence of solutions for
Jacobian and Hessian equations, optimal control, differential
inclusions, dual conditions for nonconvex functions, moving boundary
variational problems, inverse variational inequalities, degenerate
transmission problems, obstacle problems with measurable coefficients,
second order optimality conditions, infima over sub-level sets,
relaxation methods in Hilbert spaces, new energy inversion in saddle
point problems, stochastic variational inequalities.

The workshop aims at offering a review of the results achieved in the
above research themes, specifying the used methods and pointing out the
open problems together with outlines of the new research trends in the
principal topics of variational analysis and applications.

The sessions of September 3-4 will be dedicated to Professor Antonino
Maugeri in the occasion of his 70th birthday.

During the opening ceremony of the International Workshop, a Gold Medal
in honour of Guido Stampacchia will be assigned for the fifth time,
after an international competition, to a young mathematician, whose age
be not greater than 35 years at the date of December 31st 2015, for his
scientific contribution in the field of Variational Analysis.

17- Special issue of Mathematical Programming B on Optimization Models
and Algorithms for Data Science
(source : M. Théra)

Dear Colleagues

We would like to draw your attention to an upcoming special issue of
Mathematical Programming B on Optimization Models and Algorithms for
Data Science.

Data and decisions are more strongly linked in the information age than
ever before. This special issue focuses on modelling and optimization
approaches that deal with large data sets, as well as applications from
business analytics and machine learning that have emerged in the last
decades as data accumulates from multiple sources such as internet
traffic, social and sensor networks.

Successful submissions to this call are expected to provide a
substantial methodological contribution to
- data-related modelling issues in optimization, such as tractable
reformulations of problems involving uncertain data (e.g. using
stochastic, robust or data-driven optimization techniques); or
- numerical solution schemes for optimization problems involving large
data sets, such as solution approaches for large, sparse optimization
problems or real-time optimization methods.

This call is being advertised via the British-French-German Conference
on Optimization 2015 (optimisation.doc.ic.ac.uk/bfg2015). Attendance at
the conference is not a pre-requisite for submitting a paper to the
special issue, however.

Authors should submit their papers via
http://www.editorialmanager.com/mapr/ and select article type "S.I.:
Data Science — Series B" for consideration in this special issue.

Papers will be refereed according to the standards of Mathematical
Programming, Series A. We are requesting that all papers be submitted
using MP style files, and conform to a maximum of 25 pages. The
necessary LaTeX files can be downloaded at
www.eng.cam.ac.uk/~dr241/MPB/MPB- Springer-latex-style-files.zip.

Deadline for submission of full papers: December 1, 2015. We aim at
completing a first review of all submissions by May 15, 2016.
