A lower semicontinuity result is proved in the space of special functions of bounded deformation, under a noninterpenetration constraint, for a surface integral, whose energy density $\Psi$ has explicit dependence on the jump and the normal to the crack site. A characterization of the energy density $\Psi$, which ensures lower semicontinuity, is also given.
