The Department of Mathematics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign is pleased to announce the conference:

\begin{center} {\Large GEOMETRIC ANALYSIS AND APPLICATIONS}

\medskip

The conference will be held at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on July 12-15, 2006.

\bigskip \end{center}

This conference will focus on recent developments in the study of geometry and analysis in metric measure spaces (with an emphasis on sub-Riemannian geometry) and several applications to problems ``outside'' of mathematics (in particular: robotics, control theory, geometry of the visual cortex, and digital image reconstruction). While some of the invited lecturers may fall into purely one category (``pure'' or ``applied''), a substantial number of lecturers will speak on aspects of both pure and applied topics.

At this time, the following mathematicians have agreed to participate: \begin{center} \begin{itemize} \item Zoltan M. Balogh (University of Bern) \item Anthony Bloch (University of Michigan) \item Mario Bonk (University of Michigan) \item Roger Brockett (Harvard University) \item Der-Chen Chang (Georgetown University) \item Monique Chyba (University of Hawaii) \item Giovanna Citti (University of Bologna) \item Michael Cowling (University of New South Wales) \item Selim Esedoglu (University of Michigan) \item Bruce Kleiner (Yale University) \item Adam Koranyi (City University of New York, Lehman College) \item Pertti Mattila (University of Helsinki) \item Jean Petitot (Centre d'Analyse et de Mathematiques Sociales, Paris) \item Alessandro Sarti (University of Bologna) \end{itemize} \end{center}

Depending on availability of financial support (NSF support is still pending) we are also planning to have a number of 20-minute contributed talks.

**** CALL FOR SHORT TALKS ***** \vspace{.5in}

\fbox{\parbox{4in}{NSF support is pending to sponsor recent PhDs and graduate students who would like to attend the conference and present a 20-minute talk. All interested people should contact any one of the organizers at the addresses above and include their advisor's name (if students) and the title of their talk.

Applications by underrepresented groups and minorities are strongly encouraged.

Support for the conference comes from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and from the National Science Foundation (pending at the moment).}} \end{center} \end{document}
