One century after the death of Boltzmann and almost half after the death of Landau, their legacies are still alive and kinetic theory continue to nourish mathematics. Optimal transport theory was given a new life from the 1980s on and since then it has drawn new deep connections between geometry, probability and dissipative PDEs. Cédric Villani, who was recently awarded the Fields medal, has made key contributions to these fields of research and his works have been also a meeting point and crossroad of several different research communities. His reward is also a reward for these whole fields and the tremendous new developments they lead to in the last decades.

This conference aims therefore at celebrating and present the most challenging developments and perspectives in these fields. It aims also at introducing students to the fascinating questions open by these old (and new!) topics.
