ANNOUNCEMENT Summer School 2004 Homogenization and Shape Optimization September 13th, 2004 - September 17th, 2004 Organized by the Mathematics Department of the University of Lisbon in collaboration with CMAF Location: The Summer School sessions will take place at Complexo Interdisciplinar UL 2, Av Prof. Gama Pinto, 1649-003 Lisbon Portugal Objectives The Summer School 2004 - Homogenization and Shape Optimization aims at bridging the gap between graduate or upper undergraduate Mathematics and Engineering students, with some of the modern branches of scienific research in the areas of Homogenization and of Shape Optimization, as well as, with its applications to Engineering science. The subjects under study will be related to the theory of Partial Differential Equations, Calculus of Variations and to its applications to Engineering and Materials Sciences. Several well known specilists who have created and contributed, in a fundamental way, to the development of Homogenization and Shape Optimization theories will participate in the Summer School 2004 - Homogenization and Shape Optimization. Conca (Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Chile) G. Francfort (Université de Paris XIII, France) J. Guedes (I.S.T., Portugal) F. Murat (C.N.R.S., France) H. Rodrigues (I.S.T., Portugal) L. Tartar (Carnegie Mellon University, U.S.A.) Short Summary of the Programme The courses, in the number of 5, wih a duration of about 5 hours each, will take place from Monday, September 13th through Thursday, September 16th. Friday, September 17th, will be devoted to a series of seminars about applications and possible further developments of the themes studied in the courses.
