Phase transition phenomena arise in a variety of relevant real world situations (e.g. melting and freezing in a solid-liquid system, evaporation, solid-solid phase transitions in shape memory alloys, combustion, crystal growth, damage in elastic materials, glass formation, phase transitions in polymers, plasticity, ...),. The practical interest is evident and has deeply influenced the technological development of our society, stimulating indeed an intense mathematical research. It is well-known that the crucial issue of adequately describing some relevant phase change situations requires the joint contribution of several different knowledges, ranging from continuum thermomechanics, to the mathematical analysis of PDE's, to approximation and computation. The possible dissipative character of the phase transition phenomena is often a guideline in all of the abovementioned steps of the study. Indeed, the concept of dissipation occurs in the analysis of thermodynamic consistency of models, is strictly related to the expected regularity of solutions to PDE's, is connected with the possible stability of suitable discretization schemes.

The purpose of the workshop is then to stimulate an interdisciplinary discussion on this topic and review the recent developments of the field.
