The Department of Mathematical Analysis, Charles University (Prague) announces an open position for a Ph.D. student working on rate-independent systems arising from physical models. The student will work under the guidance of Barbora Benešová, to whom also all inquiries about the position should be addressed. Short description of the project: We will work on the analysis of rate independent systems that include plasticity, damage, crack growth etc. The mathematical methods will be centered around calculus of variations, PDEs and inclusions as well as function spaces. What we offer: A salary of at least 20 000 CZK (approx. 800 €) plus a scholarship of at least 11 000 CZK (approx. 400 €) Work within a multidisciplinary project with possible cooperations within material science (project Ferrmion) Financing of conferences, schools and a longer research stay at a foreign institution.
