Deadline: 10 oct 2016

Applications are invited for two positions in Applied Mathematics at either Lecturer (Assistant Professor), or Senior LecturerReader (Associate Professor) level.

Senior LecturerReader (Associate Professor): £48,327 rising to £55,998 (inclusive of 201617 cost of living increase)

Applications are invited in any area of Applied Mathematics. We strongly encourage applications from within the fields of nonlinear mechanics and mathematical biology, and interfacing with differential equations and numerical analysis. Particular interests include, but are not limited to: fluids and solids mechanics, inverse problems, multi-scale problems, dynamical systems and networks, as well as the interface between these areas with stochastics and statistics (e.g. uncertainty quantification).

A successful applicant at Senior Lecturer or Reader Level will have a strong track record of independent research of international standing. At Lecturer level a successful applicant will have shown (at least) exceptional potential for achieving such research excellence.

The appointees will be expected to sustain a leading research programme, and to be active in developing and submitting competitive applications for external funding.

Candidates should also have a strong interest in pursuing excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in supervising graduate students.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant department with an EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training ‘Statistical Applied Mathematics at Bath’ (SAMBa), and various cross-disciplinary centres such as the Centre for Nonlinear Mechanics, Centre for Mathematical Biology and the Centre for Networks and Collective Behaviour. Bath also houses the recently founded Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI).

Both the Department and the University are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment. Applications from all groups currently under-represented in academic posts are particularly encouraged. We are working to improve the present gender balance within the Department, and particularly welcome applications from women.

Alongside completion of the online application form, candidates should upload the following documents, using the online application portal via the link below, from which further particulars and conditions of service are also available. (i) A full Curriculum Vitae, (ii) a statement of research interests of up to 3 pages, also explaining how their work would complement and strengthen existing activity at Bath and (iii) a one-page outline of teaching strategy and (iv) the names and addresses of three to four referees. Candidates should specify which position(s) (LecturerSenior LecturerReader) they wish to apply for.

Interviews are currently scheduled for 10 and 11 November 2016.
