Abstract:
We introduce a mathematically new approach for quantization of vectorial signals which is already widely used by engineers, and discuss its basic properties. Consider a vectorial signal on the input to a computational device calculating a given function of the input. The main objective is to quantize the signal components separately in a way that optimizes the output quality. We study existence of optimal quantizers and estimate the optimal cost for several classes of functions.
