Applications are invited for a Postdoc or a PhD-student position at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Vienna in the group on Variational Methods and Applications led by Paolo Piovano (see https://www.univie.ac.at/variationalmethods/). The position is funded through the WWTF project MOdeling and DEsign of epitaxially strained NAnoislands (MODENA) and the FWF Stand-Alone Project Optimal Shapes of Crystal Interfaces (OSCI).

The postdoc appointment is limited to a year and a half with flexible starting date, while the PhD position is associated with the enrollment in the PhD program in Mathematics at the University of Vienna for 3 years and should start by September 1st, 2019. Both appointments include no teaching load and their salaries will be in line with the standard personnel costs from FWF (https://www.fwf.ac.at/en/research-funding/personnel-costs/).

Applicants for the postdoc position must have (or be close to obtain) a PhD, while applicants for the PhD-student position must have (or be close to obtain) a Master.
