The successful candidates will join the Research Group [Multiscale Calculus of Variations and PDEs|https://www.asc.tuwien.ac.at/~multiscale/] led by [Elisa Davoli|https://www.asc.tuwien.ac.at/~edavoli/] at the [Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing|https://www.asc.tuwien.ac.at/] of TU Wien in Vienna, Austria, in the framework of the newly funded [FWF START grant|https://www.fwf.ac.at/en/news-and-media-relations/news/detail/nid/20200617-2529/] ‘’Tunable materials: geometry, nonlocality, chirality’’. The focus of the project is at the triple point between calculus of variations, partial differential equations, and applied mathematics, with problems spanning from homogenization, rigidity estimates, phase transitions, nonlocal evolution equations, nonlinear PDEs, as well as micromagnetics and magnetoelasticity. The PhD-student will be co-supervised by [Manuel Friedrich|https://www.uni-muenster.de/AMM/en/Friedrich/] (University of Münster).

Ideal candidates would have a strong background in calculus of variations, geometric measure theory, nonlinear evolution equations, or in applied analysis. The annual gross salaries for the Postdoc and PhD positions are approximately 54.000 EUR and 30.000 EUR, respectively.

*Applicants for the Postdoc position* must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Mathematics or Physics. Postdoc candidates are requested to provide a detailed CV and a short research statement (max 4 pages), together with names and full contact addresses of three references.
