Two postdoctoral positions in mathematics (focusing on semigroups) in
the framework of the research
project “Semigroups: Conjugacy, Computation, Crystals and
Combinatorics”, with reference PTDC/MAT-PUR/31174/2017,
funded by FCT – Portuguese national funding agency for science,
research and technology.

Number of grants : 2

Location : Department of Mathematics of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa,

Duration : Initially 1 year, renewable for up to 2 more years.

2) Offre de thèse et postdoc, “Algorithmic Game Theory in Animal
Behavior”, Paris

A PhD and a postdoc positions are available under my guidance, supported
by an ERC Consolidator Grant.
The position will be held at IRIF, CNRS and Univ Paris Diderot, a
leading center for theoretical computer science in France.
The position will also include long visits to Israel, as part of a
collaboration with a bat laboratory at Tel-Aviv University.

The topic concerns the study of algorithmic game theoretical principles
with a special focus on animal contexts. The research
aims to span and connect a variety of subjects, including evolutionary
game theory, algorithm mechanism design, and animal behavior.
Of main interest are competition issues that relate to tasks such as
search (or foraging), food consumption, and territoriality.
The research will include a large purely theoretical component but will
also strive to connect to experiments in biology.
Our main collaborating partner in this respect is the bat laboratory in
Israel, led by Yossi Yovel, that conducts behavioral
experiments in many species of bats.

This unconventional approach is highly demanding, and we are seeking
only highly gifted candidates. The candidates should have
a solid background in the following subjects, ordered by importance to
the position:

•    Probability theory
•    Programming skills
•    Game theory
•    Love of animals
•    Ability to connect theory with experiments

Nous lançons un appel à candidature pour organiser les 23èmes
journées du groupe MODE (Mathématiques de l'Optimisation et de la
Décision)
de la SMAI qui auront lieux fin Mars 2020 (sur trois jours, précédées

Ce sera aussi l’occasion de fêter les 30 ans du groupe MODE.

En effet, si la création officielle du groupe MODE a été entériné
par sa SMAI le 13 avril 1991, la proposition de création a été

The European Network for Game Theory is organizing a workshop on Games,
Dynamics and Optimization hosted by the Faculty of Mathematics
and Computer Science of Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania,

Researchers Workshop on Geometry, Mechanics and Control
will take place in Coimbra, Portugal, from December 6 to 8, 2018.

The goal of this event is to bring together young researchers working in

international audience.
