RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Salary: GBP 29,301 p.a. - GBP 38,183 p.a.
Closing date: Friday 25 August 2017
Limit of tenure: 24 months

A position exists for a Post Doctoral Research Associate to work on a
project focussing on understanding the aerodynamic impact of
bio-inspired aerofoil adaptations, in particular serrated edges. It is
well-known that a serrated leading edge can significantly reduce
aerofoil-turbulence interaction noise, however the aerodynamic impact
is typically restricted to experimental observation. This project will
combine analytical mathematics and low-order numerical simulations to
understand the development and transition of boundary layers on plates
with serrated leading edges. With this in place investigation into
optimal leading-edge geometries can begin that balance both the
aeroacoustic and aerodynamic effects.

Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative
research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder will be
expected to plan and manage their own research and administration,
with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of
proposals and applications to external bodies. You must be able to
communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build
internal and external contacts. You may be asked to assist in the
supervision of student projects, the development of student research
skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the
research area.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in mathematics or
engineering, with a strong background in fluid dynamics. Experience
in aeroacoustics and/or aerodynamics is desired.

Informal inquiries can be made by contacting LE12862 at maths.cam.ac.uk
To submit an application for this vacancy, please visit:
http://www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/14482/. This will route you to the

an account (if you have not already) and log in before completing the
online application form.

Please indicate the contact details of two academic referees on the
online application form and upload a full curriculum vitae and a
description of your recent research (not to exceed three pages).
Please ensure that at least one of your referees is contactable at any
time during the selection process, and is made aware that they will be
contacted by the Mathematics HR Office Administrator to request that
they upload a reference for you to our Web Recruitment System; and
please encourage them to do so promptly.
