1- Numerical Programming Position, NYC
(source : P. Armand)

Sendyne, a technology company based in lower Manhattan, develops
numerical models for battery systems, power grids and related energy
systems.

We are actively recruiting for some programming talent to join our
team. Topics of immediate interest include numerical solution of
differential-algebraic systems, applied linear algebra, spline fitting
and optimization. At the present time we are not heavily involved in
PDEs, but that might be a topic of future interest. This is a hands-on
position requiring a working knowledge of C++ and Fortran with
emphasis on good coding practice and performance.

Some knowledge of physics, chemistry, applied math or electrical
engineering would be highly valued, but is not an absolute requirement
for the position. Candidates anywhere from a strong recent
undergraduate degree to a Ph.D. would be considered.

Interested parties should contact Dr. Robert Melville as
bobmelville1 at gmail.com.

2- German Research Chair for Mathematics and its Applications
(source : M. Thra)

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is calling for applications for a
German
Research Chair for Mathematics and its Applications at the African
Institute for
Mathematical Sciences in Ghana (AIMS Ghana). In the coming years, this
endowed
chair will promote higher education and research in mathematics in Africa.

This call is aimed at postdoctoral academics from any country who
demonstrably
conduct application-related research in the field of mathematics, have
several
years? experience in training students and, ideally, doctoral candidates.
Experience in working in and cooperating with Africa and a willingness to
collaborate with other academic disciplines are also desired.

The closing date for applications is 15 July 2015. Please note that
the application
must be supported by at least one collaborative partner in Germany.
Please visit
http://www.humboldt-foundation.de/web/research-chair-aims-ghana.html
for more details on the programme and the application specifications
as well as for
the application package.

This research chair is funded with a total of ?560,000 for a four-year
period.
A concurrent appointment at a collaborating university in Ghana is planned.
Following three years of funding, AIMS Ghana plans to conduct an
evaluation of the
chair to examine an appropriate continuation of the position.

AIMS Ghana is part of the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative which seeks to
establish a
coordinated network of 15 supra-regional centres of excellence in
mathematics across
Africa by the year 2020. The endowed research chair, which is being
advertised
internationally, is designed to help promote networking between AIMS Ghana
and
German universities and to drive networking amongst the various AIMS
centres in
Africa. As part of the German Research Chair programme that is financed by
the
Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Humboldt Foundation
will fill three
further research chairs at AIMS centres in South Africa, Cameroon and
Tanzania in
the coming years.

We should be very grateful if you would draw the attention of
potential candidates
in your personal network to this announcement. You can forward this
email to them
or disseminate the attached Programme Information at your institute.
If you have any
further questions about this new sponsorship programme, please do not
hesitate to
address them to GermanResearchChairs at avh.de.

13- Call for Chapters, Modeling and Optimization in Space Engineering,
Volume 2
(source : D. Aussel)

We solicit book chapters contributed to the forthcoming volume titled
Modeling and Optimization in Space Engineering, Volume 2, to be
published by Springer Science + Business Media, New York. Topical
theoretical developments, computational approaches, applications and
case studies are welcome.

Please send us a note if you wish to contribute. We assume that the
book project will be accepted within a month by Springer [we already
corresponded with our editorial contact]. We will keep all potential
contributors informed.

We suggest September 30, 2015 as the deadline for manuscript
submission, followed by a brief review period [~ 1 month], and we
expect to receive all finalized chapters by November 30. This will
enable us to send the entire volume for publication to Springer in
December 2015.

MS Word files or Latex source files accompanied by corresponding pdf
files will be accepted: we will circulate the appropriate template
information.
