[Sorry for multiple postings.]
Dear all,
1) Starting in October 2015, there will be an *International Master's
program* in Mathematics at the University of Würzburg, Institute for
Mathematics.
The program is designed specifically for foreign students who wish to
attend a demanding and research oriented study in a large variety of
topics in pure and applied mathematics.
Novel to our approach is the teaching concept of "Research in Groups"
where students are led to advanced topics by means of a lecture combined
with a consecutive seminar, optionally augmented by a reading course.
This will guide them to research topics with intense individual mentoring.
The program can either be taken as a complete master program of 4
semesters with the final degree of a Master or on a basis of individual
semesters. More information can be found on the homepage of the program:
http://go.uni-wuerzburg.de/mim
If you like to receive further information or updates about this
program, please send an email to mim at mathematik.uni-wuerzburg.de
I would appreciate it very much if you could pass this information to
interested students.
In the coming winter term I will offer a "Research in Groups" on
analytical aspects of elastic bodies and microstructures in the context
of the calculus of variations as well as on analytical aspects of the
Navier-Stokes equations. Further there will be a seminar on Minimal
surfaces and Harmonic maps among many other courses. For more
information see

as well as http://www.mathinfo.uni-wuerzburg.de/vven.html
In the next summer term, Martin Kruzik from Prague will join us as a
Prodi professor and will give a lecture series on Mathematical Models in
Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Solids as well as a reading course on
Relaxation Methods in the Calculus of Variations. I myself will give an
introduction to the calculus of variations on the master's level. Of
course there will be more courses offered that will be announced soon.
2) If you happen to know of an appropriate candidate for an *open PhD
position* in my group, please forward this information to him/her.
