Hi Faculty and Staff,



I am very glad to report that the Provost Office has approved us 3 TT new hire for AY15-16. We should be very grateful that Kristi has put tremendous efforts in working with the Provost to make these exceptional new hires possible.



The three new hires are specified as 1 statistician, 2 mathematicians, and at least one mathematician has strength/expertise in new pedagogical approaches in gateway or first year courses. We will try our best to find/attract suitable and strong candidates.  Nancy, Pat, and I are promptly working on putting up the ads into regular network/publications.  Please circulate this news among your collaborators to attract applications.



The Search Committee has been assigned as: Goldberg (Chair), French, Lim, Nages, Siva, Song. They will start reviewing applicants on Dec 1, 2014. If you find strong candidates, please let them know.



On the other hand, we will still face many challenges in AY 2015-16 because of severe shortage of manpower due to the accumulated un-refilled positions and another 6 new retirees. Based on the poor economy of the A&S College we are expected to consider the option of enlarging class sizes; this will be possible only if UC can provide us enough larger classrooms (so far it has not been the case).
