2- Postdoctoral position in Online Algorithms at the University Pierre
and Marie Curie

The Operations Research group of the Computer Science Department
(LIP6) at the University Pierre and Marie Curie offers a postdoctoral
position in online algorithms. The position is supported by the ANR
project NeTOC "New Techniques in Online Algorithms" that is focused on
recently introduced methods for the analysis of online algorithms.
Additional information on the research project can be found at the web

group consists of several researchers in the areas of algorithmic
design and analysis, mathematical programming and theoretical computer
science. The members of the group and their activities can be found at

Candidates with strong qualifications in all areas of algorithm design
and theoretical analysis are encouraged to apply. Prior work on online
algorithms is desirable but not a requirement. Applicants should hold
a Ph.D. degree (in computer science or related disciplines) or be
close to obtaining it. Knowledge of French is not required, but good
communication skills and a solid knowledge of English are essential.

The position is available starting September 2013 (with some
flexibility on the starting date). Funding is available for one year,
with no provision of renewal. The salary is at the level of
approximately EU 2500 per month, with benefits such as health
insurance and social coverage included.  Travel funding will be
provided. There are no teaching responsibilities.

Applications (in English or French) must include a cover letter
highlighting the reasons for applying, a CV, a list of publications, a
short summary of the Ph.D thesis (up to two pages), a research
statement as well as names of at least three references with their

The 3rd European Conference on Computational Optimization (EUCCO) will
be held at Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany, on July 17-19
(Wed-Fri), 2013. Previous EUCCO conferences were held 2004 in Dresden
and 2007 in Montpellier. It is the aim of this conference to bring
together scientists from the fields of algorithmic large-scale
optimization, optimization with PDEs, and applications.

Confirmed plenary speakers are: Barbara Kaltenbacher (Klagenfurt),
Christian Kanzow (Wuerzburg), Katja Mombaur (Heidelberg), Luis Nunes
Vicente (Coimbra), and Andreas Waechter (Chicago).
Moreover, a number of invited focus sessions are being organized.

This is an invitation for contributed presentations. Please note that

for abstact submissions is coming close: March 31.

Ils sont destin�s � r�compenser deux th�ses de doctorat, soutenues en
France lors de
l'ann�e civile 2012, apportant des contributions significatives en

20- Dissertation Prize Competition, INFORMS Society on Transportation
Science and Logistics

Nominations are invited for this years Dissertation Prize Competition
sponsored by the INFORMS Society on
Transportation Science & Logistics.This award is the oldest and most
prestigious honor for doctoral
dissertations in the transportation science and logistics area. The
award is accompanied by a $500 honorarium
for the winner. In addition, the winner and the recipient of an
honorable mention (if any) each receives an 8x10
plaque announcing the award.

The following criteria will be used in judging candidate dissertations.

Fundamental contribution and originality of the ideas or methods.
Practical importance or applicability in solving important real problems.
Clarity and excellence of the exposition.
Eligible doctoral dissertations are those completed and submitted
between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013
in the  general area of transportation science and logistics.

To be considered, a dissertation must be nominated by the thesis
supervisor, who should submit the following
items, all electronically in Adobe PDF format:

A copy of the dissertation (in PDF),
An extended abstract (3-5 pages), separate from thesis (in PDF or MS Word),
A letter of nomination from the dissertation supervisor supporting the
submission and stating his/her assessment
of why the thesis is worthy of the award (in PDF or MS Word), and,
A completed nomination form:  TSL Dissertation Prize Nomination Form
