Subject: SUAMI Project Director

From: Irene Fonseca <fonseca at andrew.cmu.edu>

We are trying to get one of our PIRE European partners
(http://www.math.cmu.edu/PIRE/index.html) to send us a postdoc to be
project director at our upcoming Summer Undergradute Applied Mathematics
institute (SUAMI, http://www.math.cmu.edu/CNA/summer_institute.html).
The institute runs May 29 through July 17

At this point, the probability that that will happen is very small
(Christoph Ortner is still looking into Oxford, Warwick is already
eliminated), so I was hoping that maybe you would have anyone in your
institution who would be interested.

This would be a young researcher (e.g. postdoc), who will also be
involved in the research activities of the CNA during the period of
his/her visit . There is a $3,000.00 USD stipend.

Being project director for the SUAMI entails:
-- The students have completed their 2nd or 3rd year.
-- The project director will be mentoring 3-4 students. It is a mutual
decision (director and students) whether they work in groups or as
individuals (or a combination thereof).
-- The project director meets with each group every day (that's usually
a commitment of approximately a couple of hours a day). -- The project
directors give talks (advertising their projects) on May 31 or June 1.
-- On July 16 and 17, the students present their projects (the directors
are expected to help them prepare and to be there during the presentations.

Please let me know if you have any potential candidates for project
director from your institution.

Best wishes, Irene
