We invite applications for a European Research Council-funded

2 Postdoctoral Research Positions

starting anytime from December 2011.

The successful candidate will work with Ulisse Stefanelli at the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Information Technologies (IMATI) of the CNR in Pavia, Italy. The research will form part of the 5-years ERC-funded program BioSMA: Mathematics for Shape Memory Technologies in Biomechanics. This project is aimed at developing the mathematical treatment of the behavior of special materials, especially shape memory alloys. The focus will be broadly interdisciplinary and include modeling, analytic, numerical, and computational issues.

Applicants should have, or should have submitted, at the time of taking up the post, a PhD in Mathematics, Scientific Computing, Computational Engineering or closely related areas. They should have a background in partial differential equations and related techniques of analysis/computation and/or experience of programming. Moreover, an interest in applications of mathematical modeling and the ability to interact effectively in an interdisciplinary team are required. Knowledge and expertise in solid mechanics and a good publication record will be preferred.

The appointment will be initially for 12 months, and possibly renewed for additional 12 months. The salary will be fixed within the range 1460-2425 (net salary) euro per month, depending on qualification and experience.
