Dear colleague,
May I kindly ask you, to distribute the announcement of a post doc
position among your master students or other young talented people
you know.
Besides a competitive salary we offer a stimulating research
environment within the Laboratory XLIM (UMR-CNRS 6172) and the
University of Limoges For more information, see http://www.xlim.fr/
fr/dept/presentation.jsp?alias=DMI
Limoges is the capital of the Limousin region with a population of
two hundred thousand and is a major economic and cultural centre.
This location in the centre of France puts the University of Limoges
at the heart of Europe with direct links to all the other major
capital cities by motorway, the rail network or via an international
airport.
The post-doctoral position concerns the study of the stability in the
sense of Lyapounov of nonsmooth dynamical systems with unilateral
constraints and impacts.
The mathematical formulation of the unilateral dynamical system
involves inequality constraints and necessarily contains natural non-
smoothness. The non-smoothness find its origin from the
discontinuous control term, or from the environment (non-smooth
impact), or from the dry friction. It is well known that dry friction
generates instabilities and consequently influences the performance
and the behavior of mechanical systems. It seems that the formalism
of evolution variational inequalities represents a large class of
unilateral dynamical systems.
Applications can be found in unilateral mechanics and electronics.
The candidate should preferably possess a background in Applied
Mathematics, Control theory, Nonsmooth (hybrid) dynamical systems,
convex analysis and nonsmooth analysis.
Electronic applications including a CV, a list of publications, names
of two possible references, and a brief description of your research
interests are most welcome. Please send them until June 25, 2007 to
the contact person.
