Subject: "Multiscale Modeling and Applications" summer school: first
    announcement.

First announcement for the summer school: "Multiscale Modeling and
Applications"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear collegue,

Pierre Degond (Toulouse) and me, we are organizing a summer
school

     "Multiscale Modeling and Applications"

from August 7-11, 2006 in Cargese (Corse, France) financed
by the Universite franco-allemande (UFA). The main goal of the
summer school is to bring together experts from multiscale
modeling, PhD students, and postdocs from Applied Mathematics
and Physics. A special focus will be on modern applications
of multiscale modeling in plasma physics, microstructures,
biology, quantum semiconductor theory, traffic flow and others.

The following invited lectures have confirmed their participation:

* Dieter Armbruster (Arizona State University, USA)
* Carsten Carstensen (Humbold-Universitaet zu Berlin, Germany)
* Bjoern Engquist (University of Texas at Austin, USA)
* Mary Pugh (University of Toronto, Canada)
* Dietmar Kroener (Universitaet Freiburg, Germany)

Additional invited speakers are as follows:

* Pierre-Emmanuel Jabin (Universite de Nice, France)
* David Lannes (Universite de Bordeaux, France)
* Michel Rascle (Universite de Nice, France)
* Marie-Helene Vignal (Universite Paul Sabatier Toulouse, France)

You and the members of your group are cordially invited to
participate to this summer school. The organization will
cover most of the local expenses (accommodation,
half-board) and there will be NO registration fee for
the summer school. Please, see more details on the
school web page
http://mip.ups-tlse.fr/~multiscale-cargese/index.php

If you or your PhD students or postdocs are interested to
participate, please, register until June 30th at
http://mip.ups-tlse.fr/~multiscale-cargese/index.php
using the registration page. For participation of students
and postdocs, we kindly request that they submit a vita and
the name of a senior researcher as a reference (please
follow the indications on the school web page).

A limited number of contributed talks and posters will
be presented. If you or your PhD students or postdocs
wish to present a contributed talk or a poster, please,
follow the indications on the school web page.

A small number of grants will be offered by the GDR GRIP
(http://smai4.emath.fr/grip/)
to help students and post-docs finance the travel expenses.
If you want ot apply for such a grant, please, contact the
GDR coordinator, Thierry Goudon
thierry.goudon at univ-lille1.fr

The summer school will take place in a seminar
house with its own beach close to the beautiful village of
Cargese. In Cargese, you will find restaurants, supermarkets
etc. A bus transfer from the airport to the accomodation and
vice versa will be organized.
