Subject: 20 Pre- and Postdoc positions available

Dear colleagues,

the EU has just approved funding of 20 Pre- and Postdoc positions
in an interdisciplinary network for multiscale modelling of
materials which combines major research groups in math, physics
and materials science. I would be grateful if you could bring
the following ad to the attention of possible candidates.

With many thanks and best regards,
Stefan Müller

---------------------------------------------------------------
20 Pre- and Postdoc positions available

The European Community has just approved funding for
a research and training network
linking leading research teams in Antwerp, Barcelona, Bonn, Cambridge,
Ch\^{a}tillon, Leipzig, Oxford, Padua, Paris (Ecole Polytechnique), Prague
plus an affiliated US team in Minneapolis and additional satellite nodes.

This interdisciplinary network named "MULTIMAT"
focuses on "Multiscale modelling and characterization for
phase transitions of advanced materials" from a very broad
perspective embracing recent developments in
mathematics (Calculus of variations, nonlinear partial
differential equations, multiscale analysis and computation,
discrete-to-continuum limits), thermodynamics, ab-initio computations,
materials modelling and characterization.
It provides excellent training and research opportunities
for young researchers in mathematics, computer science, physics, materials
science and engineering,
including special training courses and exchange programmes with
young researchers in the other network teams.

Appointments may start on Oct 1, 2004 and certain age
and nationality restrictions apply (see
http://www.ruca.ua.ac.be/multimat/job-multimat.htm). The EU
aims at increasing the number of female scientists in
fields where underrepresented.
Therefore, women are particularly encouraged to apply.

Enquiries and applications can be send to the
network coordinator Prof. D. Schryvers (RUCA Antwerp,
nick.schryvers at ua.ac.be), to Prof. S. M\"uller (sm at mis.mpg.de)
(for the Leizpig team) or to any of the other team organizers
(see http://www.ruca.ua.ac.be/multimat/index.htm
for the list of teams and further information about the network)
