The University of New South Wales is one of Australia's
leading Universities. The School of Mathematics, which
comprises the Departments of Applied Mathematics, Pure
Mathematics, and Statistics, is one of the largest and most
successful mathematics schools in Australia. It has an
outstanding record in attracting external research support and
operates an extensive visitors program for research
collaboration. The School of Mathematics has a commitment to
excellence in the service teaching it provides to over 4000

The Department of Applied Mathematics has active research
groups in geophysical fluid dynamics, nonlinear phenomena,
computational mathematics, and optimisation and optimal
control. The School has state-of-the-art in-house computing
