    <div style="font-size: smaller;"><p>La vicenda del Premio Reale per la Matematica del 1901 con la mancata attribuzione del riconoscimento a Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro da parte della commissione presieduta da Luigi Bianchi, sancì la manifestazione di una profonda diversità di vedute tra i due matematici. Il terreno sul quale si esplicitava tale divergenza fu l’impiego degli strumenti del calcolo differenziale assoluto e l’enfasi su di un apparato analitico che, a parere di Bianchi, aveva il difetto di celare l’immediatezza del contenuto intuitivo delle teorie geometriche.
</p>
<p>L’intervento si propone dapprima di ripercorrere succintamente le tappe del processo storico che condussero Ricci all’introduzione del suo calcolo e quindi di approfondire il confronto fra i due illustri geometri, soprattutto alla luce dei contributi di entrambi alla teoria classica delle superfici.</p>
