Section of the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London.

PhD supervisor: Prof J A Carrillo de la Plata.

Starting date: September 1st 2013. We encourage to receive applications
from Students in Mathematics in their last year of studies.

Length: 3.5 years.

The main aim of the research project where the PhD student will be
inserted is:

•       the theoretical and numerical analysis of Nonlocal
Aggregation/Diffusion Partial Differential Equations

The focus of the project is on three complementary research topics:

•       Blow-up versus Equilibration. Complex Patterns in 1st and 2nd
order models in swarming.
•       Nonlinear Diffusions, Gradient Flows and Functional Inequalities.
•       Applications in Technology, Mathematical Biology and Social
Sciences. Particularly, PDE models in Mathematical Neuroscience.

Depending on the profile of the candidate, the precise research topic of
the thesis will be chosen.
