Title: Asymptotic problems in Partial Differential Equations arising in
Control Theory and Differential Games.
This project is about fully nonlinear Partial Differential Equations of
Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs type. We will look at two kinds of
asymptotic problems. The first topic is Singular Perturbations motivated
by the control and differential games for multiscale systems,
deterministic and stochastic.
The second topic is the very recent theory of Mean Field Games (by Lasry
and Lions), dealing with non-0-sum N-person stochastic differential
games and their limit as the number of players N goes to infinity.
The research associate should have a background in nonlinear partial
differential equations and some knowledge in control theory. A previous
exposure to viscosity solutions, and/or stochastic control, and/or
differential games, would be useful to shorten the time needed to become
familiar with the methods and begin the true research activity.
