Large Hadron Collider is one of the most ambitious projects ever brought to
completion. In the Colloquium I shall describe briefly its structure, providing
some details both on the accelerator proper and on the particle detectors, but
spending some time also on the role of large-scale projects in Science today. I
shall discuss the scientific motivations for the Large Hadron Collider,
describing some key questions that are expected to receive an answer from the
ongoing experiments.<B
